Coordinator, Economic and Regional Cooperation, Consulate General of Finland in St Petersburg

The Consulate General is announcing a vacancy for the position of coordinator to join the Team for Economic and Regional Cooperation. We are looking for a Team Member who is able to work independently and proactively, contributing experience, local expertize and new ideas to the work of the Team. Employer profile

The Consulate General of Finland in St Petersburg is Finland’s largest bilateral representation worldwide. Economic cooperation is one of the cornerstones of Finland’s presence in the region. The Consulate General aims to actively promote opportunities for increasing trade, business and investments of Finnish companies in the region.  Regional cooperation between Finland and Northwestern Russia – including environmental, arctic and cross-border cooperation – is an active and important part of bilateral relations. The Consulate General strives to make use of regional cooperation instruments as a way to promote mutually beneficial, pragmatic cooperation between authorities, organizations, businesses and ordinary people.

The coordinator will support the Team Leader comprehensively in managing this broad sector. Specific tasks and requirements are listed below.

Tasks

  • Supporting the efforts to promote bilateral economic cooperation. This includes arranging thematic seminars, networking events, business meetings as well as regional trade promotion trips for Finnish companies. Specific tasks include:
    • Correspondence with city and regional authorities and organizations in Northwestern Russia; correspondence with Finnish trade promotion organizations and companies.
    • Supporting the planning, conceptualization and implementation of events and trips
    • Mapping new potential and opportunities for economic cooperation
  • Providing support for promoting regional cooperation between Finland and Northwestern Russia, particularly focusing on environmental and arctic issues. Tasks include:
    • Arranging seminars and meetings, corresponding with city and regional authorities
    • Attending relevant conferences and seminars
    • Reporting as need be on recent developments within these sectors
  • Supporting the analytical work of Team, including analysis of the business environment and developments and trends in the specific sectors of the economy. This requires active screening of media and economic publications
  • Working closely with the Consulate General’s media and culture team in planning and implementing joint events.

Requirements

  • Full working proficiency in English and Russian. Command of the Finnish language is a strong asset.
  • At least 5 years working experience in relevant fields. Both public and private sector experience is considered relevant.
  • University degree in i.e. economics, business administration, social sciences or similar
  • Experience of working with Russian governmental and regional authorities is a requirement. Experience of working with trade and business promotion/development is considered an asset, also experience of regional cooperation (environment, arctic, cross-border) is an advantage
  • Experience of working with and knowledge of Finnish authorities, companies or organizations is useful, but not a requirement.
